Description
Designed to meet the needs of enterprise and government, BlackBerry Enterprise Server is for organizations that have an on-premise email server and require a high level of IT control and availability. It is the only solution on the market that offers full and easy to use device control. And how to keep this mission critical solution healthy and running is the focus of this training.
Architectural Overview & Message Flow
What services are running and which logfiles are created during activation and normal message flow processes? Is waiting for a synchronization to happen immediately a problem, or is this WAD (Working as Designed)? Examples are new email synchronization versus the deletion of address book item. In this training we will cover the following subjects:
- Follow the message flow through all the logfiles - discussion of RefID, various logfiles, last contact time, GroupWise POA logfiles and so on.
- System Architecture and a look at how all modules are connected. (Picture System Architecture)
- Basic message flow between the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) and GroupWise and between the device and BES.
- Basic activation of device flow - what exactly happens when you add a new device?
- Troubleshooting Tips
New & Improved Features of Version 5.0.1
Perfect Integration into GroupWise and full control with NEW BES 5.0.1 (available autumn 2010). With version 5 the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) provides an all round mobility solution with the following highlights; one of the most important technical differences is that this version of BES connects via SOAP to GroupWise, which makes it more real-time than ever, with less system resources. Ensure you are one of the first to see the full picture - this training offers the full insight delivered by one of the leading BES experts.
- Multiple Personal Address Book synchronization
- Over-the-air Software Upgrades
- High Availability with Automated Failover
- Mobile Application Rollout and Management plus full control of all settings of the device
- Powerful, un-interrupting Migration Tools

- Simplified Security Model
- 35 New IT Policies
- Job Management, Scheduling, and Throttling

Migrating from old to new
Migration scenarios from BES 4.x to BES 5.0.1.will be discussed, as well as the changes to the version of your GroupWise environment. The new BES 5.0.1 will no longer support GroupWise 7.x, however you will learn why GroupWise 8.0.2 should certainly be your preferred choice. It's the most reliable and solid solution with the lowest administration efforts for an integral mobile device solution. Calls can even be made over Wi-Fi at work, at home, or in Wi-Fi hotspots and you can take the desk phone, features and number with you away from the desk with the BES add-on BlackBerry Mobile Voice System.
